About Loa loa

The nematode Loa loa, or eye worm, is the filarial species that causes Loa loa filariasis. L. loa is one of three parasitic filarial nematodes that cause human subcutaneous filariasis in Africa and India. Maturing larvae and adults of the "eye worm" occupy the subcutaneous layer of the skin the fat layer of humans, causing disease.
