About Echinococcus granulosus
The cestode Echinococcus granulosus is a member of the Cyclophyllidea, which comprise the majority of tapeworms that are of medical importance. Adult E. granulosus parasitise the small intestines of dogs and other canids. Larval stages cause the serious and life-threatening human diseases cystic echinococcosis. E. granulosus has a worldwide distribution.

Genome Assembly & Annotation
Assembly
The E. granulosus genome was sequenced by the Parasite Genomics group at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in collaboration with Cecilia Fernandez (Universidad de la RepÃÂública, Uruguay). The version of the genome presented here was described by Tsai et al (2013), and corresponds to NCBI assembly EGRAN001.
Annotation
The original gene predictions were made by the Parasite Genomics group at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute as described by Tsai et al (2013). The gene models have since been subject to iterative improvement, and the version represented here is the March 2013 snapshot.
