The nematode Trichinella nativa is a parasite of a wide variety of mammals and birds. It is highly pathogenic and has a high resistance to freezing as it is encapsulated. Trichinellosis is caused by the ingestion of undercooked meat containing encysted larvae, the first signs include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, fatigue, fever, and abdominal discomfort.
